It is particularly important that we realize the need is not to change our mind in order to agree with whomever or whatever we're resisting...face it, we all may be wrong. The need is to open our mind to God...to get a perspective from a higher consciousness altogether.
To reach that higher consciousness is the acme of still more spiritual growth. That is when our mind has been exchanged...by grace and by God.
I'm coming to believe that we make a mistake when we try to stay in that higher consciousness...to live there. The very trying makes it a self-determined objective as opposed to the perfect objective which is of God. We are, after all, human beings, subject to all the limitations that go with being human.
There it is, another reason why we need God...to aid us in doing better than we are naturally inclined to do. Lest we forget, better by God's lights, not ours.
Aim for progress not perfection, focus on the well-being of others, be kind to invalids and animals, and don't be as nasty as we want to be. Or love and laugh.
If we fail at that, then do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
