We can patiently accept not being good. What we cannot bear is not being considered good, not appearing good.—St. Francis of Assisi
Well, ain't that the truth!
The "accept" part in particular..."patiently," too, if we let beating our breasts and wailing about it be our patience.
I wonder where we ever got the mistaken idea that carping is as good as doing...complaining to the Lord, considering that Our Prayer, then taking no forward action must've seemed like a good idea at the time.
The adage all things work together for good is the key. Spiritual growth...praying our thank you...leads us through life's briars and brambles, self, to God's roses and rainbows, Self.
According to me, we are born with peace, love and joy within us...all we need do is use them. Which is also true of disgruntled, peeved and put-upon...all we need do is not use them.
For this we are given freewill...we can choose at anytime which way we will lean. To lean toward peace, we grow with God, and Self rules; to lean toward disgruntled, our ego grows, and self rules.
There's the root difference between spiritual and egoic minds...spiritual looks inward in gratitude, ego focuses outward...looking to blame.
The good news is that all things working together for good brings us to the deeper discovery that a spiritual mindset neither encourages nor discourages complaining. Spiritual resists nothing; it takes all our reasoning mind throws at it, and lead us onward back to God.
Thank you.
