THERE IS NO STANDING STILL

All that is human must retrograde, if it do not advance. -- Edward Gibbon

Gibbon puts it more elegantly than we do. We say, If you're not moving forward, you're moving backward...there is no standing still.

Then I read that each of us is asked to make our own contribution to giving flesh to faith in the world. Isn't that excellent? What a succinct reminder that faith without works is fantasy.

One difficulty in "making our own contribution" is in trusting our contribution is acceptable...good enough in fact.

What if our acceptable contribution is that which we deem stupid? Or just another mistake that we feel we must correct somehow. What if that is God's will for us, and here's us trying to change it?

If it be true...and it's proving to be so daily...that acceptance is the full and complete answer never mind the question, then it follows that acceptance of our apparent mistakes is how we give flesh to faith in the world.

There's where our spiritual trust comes to our aid...for acceptance is not just standing still, nor is it simply laying down our sword and shield. No. Acceptance is walking toward our mental battleground sans sword and shield. Proof that there are multiple ways for us to give flesh to faith in the world...all of which consist of moving forward.

Thank you.
