We so often think that we are wrong when we try to do God's will and still stumble, bumble and fail...when we follow our mentor's suggestions, do what our How-To Manual says, and yet still! here we are, feeling like a dolt.
When the end result of our trying is not what we had in mind at all...or, worse, is what we had in mind yet stinks like a skunk in heat...take heart. That's the natural journey...that's doing it right when our desire is to learn to seek first God's will and way.
Trying, failing, trying, half failing, trying, failing, trying...nobody ever got to Heaven in the first round.
The glory comes in the desire, and there be the hook: our desire. When we change our mind about just what it is we desire...to be precise, when we desire not to Get It Right, but to humbly seek first God's will and way. There. We are on the way toward detaching from our self-determined objectives.
The trouble being we either didn't listen or didn't believe that those who take this road had best settle in for a bumpy ride to Graceland. Ah, but it's the only ride for those who seek still more spiritual growth. We are graced when we accept the bumps and bruises as another reason to love and laugh.
The blinding flash of the obvious is: All our work has been done for us. It is wrapped up in the word humbly. When, not if, we humbly ask God to remove our shortcomings, all our troubles, Lord, soon be over.
Thank you.
