God gave us free will...it is entirely our choice to seek his will. God does not guard us, he guides us when, if and as we seek. Apparently, even that is not essential...God is not available on demand. It is our need that is God's gift to fulfill.
When we pray take away my difficulties, we mean lift up my eyes that I may see my difficulties as You see them...as my gifts.
Hate is not turned by hating, regrets are not lifted by regretting, resentments are not resolved by resenting. Nothing is changed for the better but by love. Lift up my eyes that I may see as you see.
Fr Richard Rohr has written, Our false self, as all religions say in one way or another, must 'die before we die.' According to me, to die before we die is to surrender unto acceptance...to surrender self unto acceptance of self is to realize Self.
