Short form of Saint Francis' yardstick for finding peace: It is not winning the love and admiration of others or even winning the Nobel Peace Prize. If, however, you are called scum of the earth and get spit in the eye...and you can reply, without lying, "God loves you, and so do I," you will know perfect peace.
Reading Rohr's one sentence this morning, my eyes were opened. In effect, this is exactly what I had told JoB that I sought...and what she soon delivered to me and with an audience!
My BFO: I was given the opportunity to follow Francis, to do as Jesus did before Pilate, answering not a word.
My BFO: I was given the opportunity to follow Francis, to do as Jesus did before Pilate, answering not a word.
My block to making that opportunity mine, or finding that promised "perfect peace," has been my search to understand JoB, to excuse her, to find, by my thinking, no fault in her. That is a purely egoic search...seeking the gift God has already given, but not to my thinking.
I say often that the hardest thing life will ever ask of us is that we change our mind. Here's me with God's golden opportunity to do just that, and it's the last thing I recognized.
Change your mind. No greater gift.
Thank you.
