The point is that no one should ever [do anything] merely in the hope of a reward because their reward may not come from that direction. -- Joel Goldsmith, "The Gift of Love"
There. That is the cosmic nature of thank you. We pray our thank you without regard to the reason...whether it be good or not appearing.
To the rational mind, thank you is extended for the good that has already been delivered into our head or hands. Spiritual growth teaches that all things come from God...God is love...love is good; ergo, we pray thank you for any and all things that come to us before we have our hands or head on it.
We are putting into place on a daily basis the lesson to trust God, not our own understanding. Practice this, and for a fact, we will never again need fear being bored.
If we're still into expecting rewards...ah, another lesson in learning. Our reward may not come from the direction we expect. We're expecting a good, and a less-than-good arrives...thank you. And vice versa. Paradox alert: Once we've accepted the less-than-good and learned to live gratefully with it, almost assuredly, we will discover it to be a pearl beyond price. And sometimes vice versa.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. —Proverbs 3:5
Thank you.
