Our reasoning mind is our friend as long as we don't let it wander over into ego's territory. As we have learned...repeatedly...ego has a loudmouth and a strong will.
We remember that all of our spiritual understanding is counterintuitive, and here's counterintuitive at work: Ego's nature is our blessing for...just like fear...it turns us to God...a tish slower than fear, but eventually, depending on our diligence. Our spiritual nature gets a workout coming to accept reason as our friend.
In our early years of spiritual awareness, we considered reason an enemy...to be turned away from. With the grace of God and a little help from our friends, we learned that reason is essential to us as we trudge the road of spiritual growth. Reason is just another tool of God's for our use, but it is neither our safety net nor our security.
An earlier BFO is still true: Reason can help clear the channel for God's thoughts to pour through. We can think of reason as God's Roto-Rooter. Our mistake is putting our trust in the Roto-Rooter instead of in God.
